When can I schedule an appointment?
We offer appointments from 5pm-8:30pm Monday-Thursday
How long are appointments? When do they begin?
Appointments are typically half an hour long. They begin at the top and bottom of the hour (5:00, 5:30, etc.). If you are working on a longer paper, you may request an hour appointment.

The form says “request an appointment." What does that mean? Is my appointment scheduled yet?
The form sends an e-mail to the Writing Center staff who will schedule your appointment manually. You will receive a confirmation e-mail within 24-hours of making your request. If your requested times are not available or there are questions, you will receive a follow-up e-mail within 24 hours as well.
What do I do if I need to reschedule or cancel an appointment?
Call the Writing Center at 543-8972. We ask that you provide at least one hour notice so that your spot may be given to another student.
I don’t have an appointment, but I need tutoring tonight! What can I do?
- If no appointments are scheduled, a tutor will work with you.
- If the tutors are working with other students, you may be able to claim an open appointment window within the next half hour or hour.
- If you’d rather not climb the stairs, you can call to check if a tutor or appointment is available.
If I have an appointment, do I still have to check in?
Yes. All students must check in at the front desk every time they visit the Learning Commons. Let the staff know you have an appointment and you will be given a “green sheet” to fill out before you connect with your tutor.
I tried to visit the Writing Center in the evening and even though the tutors weren’t working with students, they didn’t help me. What’s going on?
Each appointment window lasts 30 minutes. The tutors’ appointments may have ended early and they may have been waiting for their next student. The Writing Center strives to work with all students who visit, but between 5-9pm priority is given to students with pre-scheduled appointments.
Do I have to make an appointment?
No. You are always welcome to visit the Writing Center in the evening to see if there is a tutor available.
We continue to offer walk-in tutoring from 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday. During these times, you do not need an appointment. Students who visit the Writing Center during these times will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
